downtime Schedual

hey i notice u switch off the server every now and then
(not sure if its intentional or its crashing)
but if it is intentional could you please come up with a time table of when your going to shut it down and for how long approx

It doesn't get shut down, notch's server is in alpha and has a memory leak. Thats why It lags after a period of time then crashes. I'm working on getting it up now, have patience. =)

Nah, and if it was; it sure as hell wouldn't be when I'm at work haha.

hmmmm i wonder if there is a way to program it so that when it does crash it restores itself automatically

There are a bunch, but none of them are reliable yet. As for the downtime tonight it was minecraft.net not my server... And to think I spent all that time trying to get it working.

What about setting a script that Resets the server every 3-4 hours. So if the server crashes while no one has access to the control panel, it'll at least turn on after a while on its own, minimizing down time.

If the server hasn't crash and is still on it'll display a message before it resets, giving a warning like "Server Scheduled Reset in 5 minutes, Please log out"

Good idea, I'll ask norris to create such a script.
